Following the recently-concluded ninth edition of the Indian Premier League, Facebook this week detailed interaction statistics over the duration of the tournament.

Facebook said it had registered 360 million interactions (posts, comments, and likes) from over 30 million users during the IPL. It also said there'd been over 140 million video views on the Facecbook pages of the IPL and eight teams, the highest it had recorded yet for any IPL season.

Captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Player of the Tournament Virat Kohli, was the most talked-about player and new team Gujarat Lions was the most talked-about team this season. For the second year in a row, the most viewed video on Facebook during the IPL belongs to the bhangra dancing trio of Mandeep Singh, Virat Kolhi and Chris Gayle, from Royal Challengers Bangalore. This year's celebration video uploaded by Mandeep Singh following RCB's Raipur match saw over 7 million views.

Facebook added that during the 50-day tournament, the Indian Premier League's Facebook page grew by over 2 million fans to 18.3 million.

The social network said the introduction of two new teams this season, the Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions, had a significant role in boosting Facebook conversations around IPL this season. It added that both teams used Facebook features (such as Facebook Q&A, Facebook Live and 360 Video) to give their fans unprecedented access to the players and owners.

Facebook said Instagram also played a role in facilitating conversations around the tournament, with the league, players, and teams taking to the platform to share photos. The social network also revealed the IPL frames for profile pictures were used over 9.5 million times this tournament.
