Since its debut in February last year, the Places feature on Facebook has allowed people to check-in to various locations like malls, beaches, sports stadiums and coffee shops and share it with their network. Now, the social networking site has compiled check-in data from 25 cities around the globe and listed the most social landmarks around the world.

The findings reveal that some of the most popular spots visited during summer vacations include sports arenas, amusement parks and shopping centers. Facebook also stated that cities with warmer climates had more check-ins to outdoor spots while those with colder climates were restricted to indoors like concert halls or bars.

Announced via a blog post, here are some more interesting findings from Facebook:

  • Malls and outdoor markets like Melbourne's Queen Victoria market, Sao Paolo's Mercado Municipal and Seoul's Dongdaeum appear within the top 10 landmarks for 19 of 25 cities.
  • Sports venues also ranked highly in the U.S., with Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco each featuring stadiums or arenas in their top 10 list. Baseball was also very popular in Tokyo, where the Tokyo Dome won out, while in other cities, soccer, rugby, and cricket venues were popular summer hangouts.
  • Chain restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafes in Buenos Aires, Delhi and Barcelona, TGI Fridays in Norway, and Bella Paulista Casa de Paes in Sao Paulo also appeared on the list.
  • Amusement parks like Moscow's Gorky Park, Seoul's Lotte World appear, Johannesburg's Gold Reef City and Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens also score high.
