Facebook Releases Its '2014 Year in Review' Top 10 Lists

Facebook has published its 'Year in Review' data gleaned over the course of 2014, showcasing the most-talked about topics from across the world and more than a billion users.

The social networking in its Year in Review lists has also published India's most talked-about topics of the year, apart from the top checked-in places in the country. Facebook also revealed the most popular games of the year on its network.

Announcing 2014's Year in Review lists, Facebook in a blog post said, "Every day, people discuss the topics and stories that are important to them on Facebook. Today we're taking a look back at the moments, places and people that moved us in 2014."

The company has separately released some US-specific Year in Review lists, such as the most talked-about athletes, entertainers, TV shows, movies, songs, and games. Facebook also published the most viewed ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos in the US. Finally, the company released an obituary column, of 10 famous 'People We Lost', again concentrating on the US.

Facebook says its Year in Review lists were compiled with data measured by how frequently a topic was mentioned in Facebook posts made between January and December 2014. The company says that to put this list together, it analysed Facebook posts in an "aggregated, anonymised way", and then ranked them to be able to create a "snapshot of the year on Facebook."
