In order to popularise the not so popular video call feature on its website, Facebook had reportedly added a call (video) button next to message button on the user profiles, which can be used to initiate a video call.

Facebook had earlier partnered with Skype to provide video chat on the site, but it seems the feature did not pick up, so company is trying another approach. Techcrunch is reporting that the sudden addition of call button may also have something to do with the recent launch of Airtime, a video chat network, by former Facebook president Sean Parker. On the other hand, Google is continuously adding more and more feature to Google+ Hangouts, which is another alternative available to users to video chat with friends and family.

This is not the first time that Facebook has added the call button; it was present in previous profile view too but somehow was not added in the Timeline view. The social network is also lagging on its promise to add more features to its Skype integration like group video chats, Facebook to Skype calling and Facebook to standard phone number calling.

Considering the fact that both Google+ and Airtime have many of these features, it is high time for Facebook to step up its game.
