As with any other privately held company, very little details are known about Facebook's internal workings. The recently filed IPO documents offer a valuable insight into the inner workings of the company, in addition to providing a virtual goldmine of statistics. We look at 10 big stats that Facebook's Form S-1 reveals.
1) Facebook has 845 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs), an increase of 39% as compared to 608 million MAUs on December 31, 2010. Facebook defines MAUs as users who use the website atleast once in 30 days.
2) Facebook had 483 million Daily Active Users (DAUs) on average in December 2011, an increase of 48% as compared to 327 million DAUs in December 2010.
3) More than 425 million people used Facebook mobile products.
4) Facebook users produced an average of 2.7 billion Likes and Comments per day during the three months ended December 31, 2011.
5) There are over 100 billion friend connections on Facebook.
6) Over 250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day.
7) Mark Zuckerberg's base salary in 2011 was $500,000. His salary will drop to $1 from January 1, 2013, as per his own request.
8) Facebook had a net income of 1 billion dollars in 2011, based on revenues of 3.71 billion dollars. That's up from 606 million dollars in net income and 1.97 billion dollars in revenue in 2010.
9) Advertising accounted for 85% of Facebook's revenues in 2011, down from 95% in 2010 and 98% in 2009.
10) Facebook has 3200 full time employees, up 50% from 2010.
