Little-known Indian startup Smartron was founded in 2014 but only made the news a month ago when it was announced that Sachin Tendulkar was investing in the company and would act as its brand ambassador. Smartron is now promoting itself as a homegrown Internet of Things (IoT) player, which is a very interesting space to be in at this time. We're curious to see what exactly the company will come up with and how it will position IoT products and services in India. However, it seems we're going to have to wait a little while to see how that plays out, as Smartron's focus right now is on a pair of relatively conventional products: a Windows 10 tablet and an Android smartphone.
Smartron t.book Summary
Smartron is a new startup with bold ambitions, and its first product is the Smartron t.book. This 2-in-1 offers some of the features and performance of Microsoft's Surface Pro 4, but at half the price. Based on an Intel Core M processor, the t.book has adequate hardware for everyday tasks. The kickstand and keyboard attachment can turn the tablet into a productivity tool, but there are a few tradeoffs compared to a normal laptop. The screen is sharp and bright and the keyboard is surprisingly usable, but the trackpad is too tiny and oversensitive, making it difficult to get a lot done. Not everyone will love the Smartron t.book's looks, but if you want a unique portable computer for entertainment and just a little work on the side, you won't find anything like it at this price.

A wow product from a startup!Karunanidhi Venugopal (Jul 20, 2016) on Gadgets 360I had been searching the web for quite some time for an alternate to the expensive Surface Pro in India until, one fine day in mid March 2016, I stumbled over this product, through Gadgets 360. I ordered it on 17 May night and the device was with me at Chennai on 19 May- Prompt! I had some initial niggles as we generally have with new launches. However, the Smartron people were so quick and responsive that my problems have been mostly solved.I have been using the device for about two months now.Here are my impressions: Pros: 1. Design is very good. 2. Finish is excellent - The Magnesium Aluminium body with the kick stand and dual tone is very good. 3. The 4K display is amazing. 4. Windows 10 and Office 365 work smoothly with the 5th generator Intel M processor. 5. The OS/SSD combine well to give a launch time of less than 15 seconds upon switching on the device. 6.The key board is light, easily detachable and easily attachable too, through the magnetic coupling. The feed back while typing is comfortable as is the button spacing. 7. The complimentary Smartron sleeve houses the tbook neatly. Cons: 1. The device is far more heavy compared with the Surface Pro and is a little inconvenient to handle it as a tab due to this reason and the thickness. 2. The riverse camera is never going to be used on such a large and heavy device.They could well have a avoided the poor quality stuff and instead strengtheed the front one for video calling. 3. The keyboard in spite of firmware upgrade (suggested by Smartron) is over sensitive. 4. People grumble about heating up upon usage - Intel M processor consumes less energy for processing and will not over heat upon normal work. It is meant to give longer battery hours on mobile devices and does not have cooling fan. Therefore, it is better not to tax the tbook on gaming and such. Verdict: Which product is 100% perfect? Even the celebrated and much hyped Apple products are not. This is too good a product for a startup company and a good value for the money for the purchaser.
