Noise-cancelling headphones are no match
Ryhope1 (May 7, 2018)
on Amazon
Noise-cancelling headphones are no match for good standard ones, if sound quality is what you're looking for - in my opinion. However, having compared this with another (more expensive) noise-cancelling brand, I find this to be superior in every imaginable respect - yes, including the sound quality. It looks and feels very well made, and is a great substitute to its wireless, more expensive sibling, the PXC550 (and arguably better). The noise-cancelling feature is highly effective too.

The sound of these are extremely good and the noise cancellation is the best I,ve ever used. In regards to noise cancellation, they are far superior to my older Bose QE2. Probably not a fair comparison because technology is always improving and I,m sure the newer Bose are amazing too.

I've owned over-ear headphones from

I've owned over-ear headphones from a few different brands (Beats, Audio-Technica, V-moda) and in terms of noise cancellation these are excellent. Even without the active noise cancelling turned on it still blocks out most normal noise like speaking, traffic, and other general noises that other people make. With active noise cancelling turned on the environmental noise is almost completely gone.I also like the minimal design of the headphones, it's nice that there isn't a giant ugly logo anywhere on them like some other brands. The sound quality is very good however I prefer another brand for general-use listening. This Sennheiser set is great for going out when I want to relax more and NOT have to hear everything that's happening around me.

This is an exceptional set

This is an exceptional set of headphones. To be honest, I don?t pay much attention to the finest points of audio technology. The key points for me are rather simple:1) It sounds great. The music I like listening to, mainly classical or folk sounds clear and with no perceptible distortion.2) It is well padded. I can wear it on my very-thin head of hair on a long transcontinental flight without it irritating my scalp with innumerable age-induced lumps and sore spots. I also like the way it surrounds and hugs my ears.3) It has a very long battery life. I have never worn it down but tend to charge it before a flight. The rechargeable batteries are listed on the front of the box as having a 50 hour life, but 30 on the rear of the box. It comes with adapters that would enable you to charge it on a long flight.4) The noise cancellation feature is excellent, particularly if you don?t want to speak to your seat mate. I almost always have to be prodded when the flight attendant wants my attention and I drift off. This is also the ideal gift for a student about to go off to college; They'll need it in their dorm!

I bought these on boxing day 2017 and have loved them ever since. I have glasses and have had issues with other headphones pinching my ears. I can happily say that I have worn these headphones for 6 hours straight, and experienced no discomfort.I noticed that other reviews have stated that the noise cancelling is no good, I disagree. It is active noise cancellation, not noise deprivation. They sense white noise, and play sound waves to counter them. I find that playing music at about 50% provides adequite noise cancelling to the outside world. The battery life lasts forever, amd I am just charging them for the third time now.I would recommend that anybody who desires a high quality set of headphones, these are the ones to choose

Awesome headphones. Don't give any 'air pressure' feeling like the Bose counterparts. Sound better too in my opinion. Only complaint is that it takes a good tug to pull out the cable, not great for the cable.. but always replaceable.

Just TERRIFIC for traveling. The
Movie Maker (Apr 20, 2017)

Just TERRIFIC for traveling. The sleek and luxe design is just what one expects from Sennheiser. The remote control is wonderful as well, it does what you NEED it to do, in a very intuitive fashion.Reasonably light weight, and the active noise cancelling feature was a blessing on the last few flights I have taken. The battery life is listed at 50 hours, and though I have used them frequently ( sometimes daily ) I have only recharged twice. The microphone works well for the occasional calls that you may receive, and the callers had no problem hearing me, nor I hearing them.I like the elegant simplicity of the case, and was particularly impressed by the instruction manual --some brands really don't do manuals well, Sennheiser does.I would consider this to be a bit of everyday luxury for a business traveler, a music lover, or anyone who appreciates rich, immersive sound. A slam-dunk as a gift for either the gentlemen or the ladies. Or, just for yourself!

Excellent set of headphones.
Isaac H (Apr 17, 2017)

Excellent set of headphones. I upgraded from a set of Shure SE215s, which I found fantastic for a set of earbuds, but no one could see me wearing them which became a problem when people were trying to speak to me.I bounced around between these, the PXC550s, and both Bose QC25s and QC35s, before ultimately deciding on these. I found the fit better than the Bose, a little more snug/seated against my ears and head, without being uncomfortable. The ear cups are definitely more comfortable for my ear size and shape. For sound quality, these are just as crystal clear as the QC25s I borrowed from a coworker, but they have deeper bass response. The noise cancelling is excellent, but the Bose wins here. With the Bose, the noise cancelling just worked. With these, there is a bit of a pressure increase on my ear drums, almost as if I'm going up in altitude. It changes the comfort level a bit, but I am still able to wear them all day without discomfort to my head or ears.

So peaceful...with a nice snug
N. Krumpe (Apr 16, 2017)

So peaceful...with a nice snug fit (but not too tight), and outstanding noise cancellation, I can sit outside and block the sound of a loud breeze, or inside and hide the sound of the furnace. And then, I set my music streaming service to "Extreme Quality" (320 kbit/sec), and get swept away by the music. The sound is not bass-heavy, but there is noticeably more bass than some other headphones...perfect for my tastes. Music does not degrade at louder volumes, nor does it lose the delicate vocals of acoustic and softer songs. This is my second set of noise canceling headphones. I prefer the PXC 480 because its noise canceling is better. I attribute that in part to the snug fit around the ears. The other set is looser around the ears, letting more sound creep in than the noise canceling circuitry can handle. I liked my old headphones, but they have been tucked away in a drawer since these were delivered.I will say, though, that some might find the Sennheisers a bit too snug. That is the side effect of the snug fit. My other headphones were more comfortable and felt "barely there". These, on the other hand, push a bit around the top of my larger-than-average bald head. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, but if you are distracted easily by a tight fit, you may find these a little too snug for your tastes.

These are great. I bought

These are great. I bought these because I fly a lot for work and they were definitely worth it. It works great for low frequency constant noises, like the hum of an airplane, or your lawnmower. I used to use earbuds and earmuffs to block out exterior noises, and these work about the same. I love the TalkThrough feature where you can clearly hear everyone around you. I am a cheapskate and I shopped and read a lot of reviews before pulling the trigger on these. You can also use the noise cancelling without any audio source if you want to sleep. And the battery lasts a very long time.

These are fantastic. On a plane, once you start using these (or any sound canceling headphones, i suppose), you will not want to take them off. I never realized how noisy the cabin is. The battery seems to last forever.Only real disappointment is the case. They could not have made a cheaper case if they tried. If I lost them, I'd buy another pair.

Im bought this product to remplace my old gaming headset and to listen to music. Everything is fine, the sound quality is nice, but not thaty much high in terms of volume. The noise cancelling option is nice, but doesn't cancel that much. It only delete little noises like my computer fans. The battery life is awesome. While other headphone are okai for my head size, this one is quite small. I need to expand it to its maximum to fit it on my head and sometime it start to hurt the top of my head.

I've been meaning to pick
Heather (Apr 2, 2017)
on Amazon
I've been meaning to pick up some active noise cancellation (ANC) headphones for ages because I hate background noise interrupting me when I'm listening to music or podcasts. These PXC 480 headphones are pretty much exactly what I've been looking for--they are very comfortable (even for my rather small head), portable, and sound great. The ANC is easy to use, lasts 50 hours before needing to be recharged (via the included USB cable), and blocks out all sorts of noise. I'm wearing the headphones with the ANC activated as I type this and music playing at a fairly low level I am not able to hear the sound of my keyboard or the other incidental noises in my home (refrigerator running, furnace, people talking in the other room). The headphones have really soft ear cuffs that are super comfortable for long wear. I've been wearing them for many hours at a time over the past several days and they haven't hurt my ears in the least. They have a large range of adjustment in the headband; for my small head I don't need to pull them out at all and yet they still stay firmly on my head. The cord is average length and has gold connections. The package includes the headphones, a case, and two different adapters perfect for interfacing with airplane entertainment systems. The cord is removable, so you have use just the ANC and not listen to audio. (These are not Bluetooth! The cord must be attached to listen to audio.)It is very easy to turn on the ANC via a small slide switch on the right ear cuff. The difference is immediately noticeable. If you'd like to speak to someone while wearing the headphones, just slide the little switch down and hold to activate the talk-through mode (which mutes your audio and activates the external mic). Be careful, though, as it is easy to forget to turn the ANC off and thereby run down your battery. You can still listen to music if the battery is dead, but the ANC functionality won't work. The quality of sound provided by these headphones is great! The bass is nice and full and the treble is great, although not perfect. Everything, from pop to classical to audio, sounds clear and sharp. And, thankfully, there is no cord noise. The mic is also pretty good, and it allows you to make and receive phone calls. The biggest downfall of these headphones is the lack of volume control. There is a button on the cord that allows you to answer phone calls, play and pause your audio, and fast forward and rewind. But, without a volume control you need to have your phone or other audio device accessible at all time. When travelling, I want to use the headphones but keep my phone tucked away. Having to reach into my bag or pocket all the time to adjust the volume level is annoying and disappointing.Overall, though, these are great headphones for travelling, working in a library or coffee shop, or even at home when you just want a little bit more quiet.

These do not fully cover the ear. They are shaped and angled awkwardly so that wearing them for more than 30 minutes causes irritation and discomfort. I believe the same discomfort would be for any size ears. Not worth it for the high tech. The older over ear versions of senheiser may have less tech things like bluetooth and on ear swipe controls, but they are way more comfortable and just as good canceling and sound.

With music or podcasts playing
J (Dec 17, 2017)

With music or podcasts playing most office sounds are almost inaudible. They work perfectly for cancelling out any 'white noise' thats around - AC units, etc. The biggest problem I've encountered is with the headphone cord - if not perfectly aligned the sound on either the right or left of the headset won't play. I've ordered a replacement cord - and hopefully the issue will be resolved.
