  • buyer beware. Samsung will not honor their IP67 rating.

I would highly advise against purchasing this phone. I had the phone less than 3 hours when my son got some water on it. it wasn't submerged at 3 feet for 30 minutes or anything near their claims on the Samsung website, just a splash of water. Less than an hour later it started acting funny, the screen was flickering and everything acted like it was on a 5 second delay. I took it back to AT&T and they took a look under the back cover (which the AT&T employee put on) and there was water damage. AT&T at that point refused to take the phone back, stating that it was a damaged phone. They told me that I should speak with Samsung, as it was their issue. I called Samsung and they said that if there was any water damage that the warranty was void. I tried pointing out to both AT&T and Samsung that the sole reason I purchased this phone was the IP67 rating. Regardless, they refused to honor their water resistant to 3 meters for a half hour claim. I now have a brick sitting on my desk that worked for less than half a day. If you're even thinking of getting this phone for its water resistance, know that the water resistance failed for me when exposed to a single incident, and that neither Samsung nor AT&T would replace the phone.

normally you send the phone to the manufacturer to determine the problem. They would check the water indicators inside the phone. If you claimed over the phone that you applied water and it killed the phone it is already beyond the warranty even though it is ip67 certified. Were all the hatched/doors sealed? Send them the phone anyways to determine the cause. A drop of water usually doesn't kill a regular phone, water will likely evaporate with no damage to the phone. With a regular phone I usually remove the battery and let it dry completely. If you spilled acidic liquid like juice or carbonated drink then it will likely start the corrosion inside the phone. My guess either the back plate was not all 'clicked-in' or the usb port was not closed. There are no other water entry points on the phone. I have the phone. My guess you got the water on USB port. So take out the battery and let the port dry before you use the phone again. my guess if you wait 24 hours and assemble the phone again it will work if not then the usb phone fried the phone - again only possible if it was not properly covered with the lid. The phone manual clearly state to seal the phone or it will get killed by water. if you need a phone that doesn't have simple 'click-in' type of water protection buy a phone called Sonim XP7, it is ip68 certified! So the company is so sure that it will last that they give 3 years of all covered protection, even accidental. it can fall 2 meters with no damage and it has no back door so virtually no water can get in. Sonim was my top choice but I got s5 active instead. still like it, less armor but the battery is good. if you need a mix of two you can get Cat B15 it is an older version though.
