Nokia India's Director - Marketing, Viral Oza, formally launched the Nokia X in India on Monday
The Nokia X is an important part of Microsoft and Nokia's strategy to capture the entry-level smartphone market
The Nokia X was launched in India on Monday, barely a few weeks after its global debut at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
The Nokia X models will fit in between the existing Nokia Asha and Lumia lines and act as "feeder" devices to help encourage users to upgrade to Lumia phones
In addition to key apps being preloaded, users can browse through the Nokia Store or third-party app stores in lieu of the official Google Play store
Rather than Google's suite of apps which ship with every Android phone, Nokia will use its own Maps app alongside Microsoft's email, messaging and cloud storage services
Operator tieups in over 60 countries will let users pay for apps and content through their phone bills. Nokia claims this significantly increases the likelihood of a user making a mobile payment
Nokia held a live demo of the Nokia X platform to show off its features and capabilities
The Nokia X is quite light and easy to hold, but its coated body makes it tough enough to withstand a few falls
The Nokia X is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB of built-in storage
The Nokia X screen is a 4-inch 480x800 pixel display with a capacitive touch sensor. The lockscreen shows notifications and you can respond to missed calls or messages by swiping
The volume rocker and sleep/power button are on the right edge, similar to the placement on Lumia phones
You'll find a standard headset jack on the top edge and a Micro-USB port on the bottom
Nokia's Glance screen uses an extremely low-power mode to display a clock and essential alerts even when the screen is otherwise off
When in standby, the Glance screen shows essential information. When woken up, swipe to the right to unlock the phone
The main menu is made up of large colourful tiles similar to the Windows Phone interface. You can rearrange these as you like
Scroll through the main menu to see all your installed apps and games
You can scroll and swipe through the contact list just like any other modern smartphone
Nokia has put a lot of effort into the custom UI design of the Nokia X. The "handle" on the bottom brings up a menu of options
The Nokia Store app will help users find Android apps across a variety of third-party app stores
The Web browser seems to be quite capable of handling most Web pages
The Nokia X will be available in black, white, red, blue, green and yellow
Nokia won't refer to the Nokia X as an Android phone, but rather a smartphone that runs Android apps.
