Phablets seem to be the next big thing in the mobile industry with many Indian companies jumping onto this bandwagon. Homegrown manufacturer Byond Tech is one of them that has recently launched the Phablet PII priced at Rs. 14,999 in the country
The device bears striking similarities to the Samsung Galaxy Note. The box contents include a free flip cover, screen guard, charger/Micro-USB cable, user manual, warranty card, power bank (portable charging device), in-ear earphones and a 2,500mAh battery
Running on Android 4.1.1, the Phablet PII sports a 5.7-inch 720p IPS LCD display that makes the videos and movies watching experience pleasant and enjoyable. It supports 5-point multi-touch
The screen occupies most of the front with the physical home button in the centre and the back and menu capacitive touch keys placed on either side
The back panel is plasticky just like the Galaxy Grand and it is quite a task to open it. Again, like the Galaxy Grand, the device needs to opened from the left
Once you're through, you'll find the microSD card slot and the dual GSM SIM (dual-standby) slots aligned in a linear fashion. The Phablet P II is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor alongside 1GB RAM. It comes with 4GB of internal storage expandable upto 32GB via microSD card
The device sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash that produces crisp and detailed images
The 3-megapixel front camera is situated next to the earpiece and and other sensors
The phablet comes with a power bank (portable charging device) that comes in handy when you're traveling long distances. Once the power bank is fully charged, it can be used to charge the Phablet P II on-the-go
The bottom makes room for the loudspeaker
Here we see the power/wake button located on the right side of the device
The volume rocker is situated on the left side. The audio quality on the device is better with the bundled earphones than on the loudspeaker
The top is reserved for the earphones jack. The packaged earphones look exactly same as the ones provided by Samsung for its devices, except they sport the Byond branding
The bottom houses the Micro-USB/charging port along with the microphone. Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS
Here's a comparison shot of the Galaxy Grand Duos (top) and the Phablet P II (bottom). Measuring 155.5x82.5x9.7 mm, the Phablet P II feels slightly thicker than the Grand Duos
