Needless to say, that is a new record, with Flurry claiming the previous record was set on Christmas Day last year when total iOS and Android device activations topped 6.8 million. The website further claimed that it kept track of December activations in the lead-up to Christmas, and they averaged 4.0 million per day from December 1-20. That makes the Christmas Day figure a jump of over 330 percent compared to a 'regular' December 2012 day!
Flurry also shared a bunch of other interesting Christmas Day 2012 statistics. It tracked a total 328 million app downloads on Christmas Day, compared to 155 million December average.
Users clocked a whopping 20 million downloads per hour, a number that, interestingly, stayed constant between 10am and 8pm on Christmas Day. On an average December 2012 day, the peak download mark of around 12 million downloads was hit during 8:30pm.
The website also noted that while the typical December 2012 day saw mobile activations outpace tablets 4 to 1, Christmas Day 2012 was split almost entirely down the middle, with tablets in fact just edging out mobiles in terms of activations. Now if that isn't a Christmas miracle, we don't know what is!
