Qualcomm has announced that its recently showcased smartwatch, Qualcomm Toq, will be available to consumers starting December 2, 2013 or Cyber Monday at a starting price of $349.99.
It will be sold online through Qualcomm's website -
toq.qualcomm.com.
The Toq smartwatch features the company's Mirasol display technology, claiming to offer an always-on experience with multiple days of battery life and good sunlight legibility. It was
first unveiled in September during the IFA trade show.
The Qualcomm Toq smartwatch is compatible with Android smartphones ruining Android 4.0.3 and above, and allows consumers to accept and reject calls, view text messages and meeting alerts, play music and selectively receive notifications from their smartphone or 'AllJoyn-enabled' devices directly from their wrist via Bluetooth.
The smartwatch also features Qualcomm's WiPower LE technology enabling wireless charging. The watch also comes with support for a stereo Bluetooth audio experience, and the Toq smartwatch's Premium Audio Edition will come with the 'first truly wireless stereo' headphones that sit outside the ear canal.
The Toq smartwatch comes preloaded with weather and stock applets from AccuWeather and ETRADE. Qualcomm has said that it will continue adding functionality to Toq through software upgrades.
"The Toq smartwatch showcases key Qualcomm innovations, such as Mirasol always on low power display, AllJoyn interactions and WiPower LE wireless charging, that will define the emerging wearable category," said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of Qualcomm. "Like a traditional watch, Toq displays information at a glance with no on/off switch. And paired with a smartphone to receive notifications and content, it allows the watch to seamlessly merge our physical and digital lives. Leveraging these and other industry-leading technologies, we and our partners will enable new product opportunities and consumer experiences."
