London 2012 closing ceremony is the seventeenth London Olympics doodle, carrying on the tradition of a Google doodle every day of the Olympics.
The London 2012 closing ceremony Google doodle shows various "virtual athletes" that had featured during the doodles the preceding 16 days. So we have the female archer, the synchronised swimming team, the shot-put athlete with the armpit hair, the javelin thrower with the long nose, and everyone else making an appearance.
Friday 27th July, the Google doodle had celebrated the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. The doodle 5 athletes playing different Olympic sports. On Saturday, the Google doodle had celebrated the sport of archery, with a female archer getting ready to aim for bull's eye.
Last Sunday's Google doodle celebrated the Olympic sport of diving. Monday and Tuesday were about fencing and gymnastics men's rings respectively. Wednesday it was the turn of field hockey, the first time the sport found its way into a Google doodle. The sport of table tennis or ping pong was depicted on Thursday.
Last Friday it was the turn of shot put, while Saturday and Sunday had pole vault and synchronised swimming respectively. Monday saw the week start with a javelin Google doodle, while Tuesday saw the first animated doodle in form of the London 2012 hurdles game.
Wednesday, we saw the amazing basketball doodle game, while Thursday it was the sport of slalom canoe (called whitewater slalom until November 2008). Friday, it was the turn of soccer/ football game, while rhythmic gymnastics was the last sport featured on Saturday.
Google has a rich history of Olympics related doodles. In 2008, there was a doodle celebrating the opening ceremony of the Bejing Olympics on Aug 8, 2008. This doodle showed the five Beijing Olympics mascots - BeiBei, JingJing, HuanHuan, YingYing and NiNi - carrying the Olympic flag.
