The state-of-the-art technology developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) was handed over to private partners for production by Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal New Delhi.
"If we have wireless traffic control system, it will help us to collate data and send traffic fast updates," Sibal told reporters.
Developed at a cost of Rs.14.75 crore, the system is power efficient and the installations run on solar panel designed with 72 hours power backup.
It has been designed for pole mounting and does not require digging of roads.
According to experts, the indigenous system is one-third the price of an imported system.
