Basis has come up with good designs for the wearables section, but is nowhere as aesthetic as devices like the FitBit. However, it has a strong point as far as its sensor data collection is concerned. The report also details that both Google and Apple are investing heavily and working towards getting their own wearable devices in the market. Google has already started trials with its Google Glass while the rumours that Apple is working on a wearable device, possibly the iWatch, are abundant, with the device supposedly already in the making.
Why would Basis Science want an acquisition? For starters, firms like Intel Capital, Norwest Venture Partners and Mayfield Fund have already pumped in close to $30 million into the firm. Right now, while Basic does have good data collection, design and ergonomics are a primary problem.
Google might be interested in picking Basis Science up for the simple reason that it is going all guns out to enter the wearable electronics market by storm. And Basis Science might look as a profitable venture for it. Would it be a profitable venture for the firms that have invested in Basis, most likely not, as the company has not been valuated highly.
