Apple is reportedly gearing to set up a research and developments (R&D) centre in Indonesia's Jakarta, after setting up similar centres in India and China. According to an Indonesia-based report, Apple will start building structures for its R&D centre in early 2017.

The report quotes Communication and Information Minister, Rudiantara, who claimed that the preparations for the project are in their final stages. "The preparation of the project development is in the final stage. The Industry Ministry and the Communication and Informatics Ministry are finalising the plan," said Rudiantara. Apple has reportedly proposed several options for the R&D centre location in Jakarta.

Adding further, he said, "It's more important. By late December, they will commence the execution for the location. So, in 2017, they will start building structures and recruiting employees." Apple is yet to make any announcement regarding setting up a new R&D centre in Indonesia.

Apple earlier this year established a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru for iOS apps. The company had said that the new centre will have an aim to "support engineering talent" and "accelerate growth" in India's developer community. The development centre is expected to open in early 2017. Apart from a Design and Development Accelerator, Apple also announced its new office in Hyderabad focused on development of Maps for Apple products.

Apple in India is looking to expand its retail presence and earlier this year Tim Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pursue a license to set up its own stores, which is rumoured to open as early as next year.

The Cupertino giant last month said it will set up a R&D Centre in Shenzen, China, while earlier reports pointed to the establishment of another centre in Beijing.
