Every week, we're going to be checking out what's new on Kickstarter to find the most innovative and interesting new projects on the crowdfunding website. That's because in the last couple of years, some of the most exciting developments in technology have come, not from the established players but from small teams with big dreams, like the Pebble smartwatch and the Oculus Rift. We're watching out for what comes next.

Sometimes though, the coolest things are the ones which won't make a big difference in the world, but could seriously help with the big projects that you are working on. That's where the Quickey comes in.

The Quickey will be accepting funding till May 4, so you can get one now. It's also cheap - $9 in the US, or $10 if you need worldwide shipping. Of course, spending around Rs. 600 on a multitool feels a bit excessive, particularly because it can't replace any specialist tools, but as a DIY enthusiast, this reporter can honestly say that his money is going where his mouth is, with a Quickey on order.

What is the Quickey? It's a small key sized - and shaped - tool that is made from a single piece of metal. It's got a lot of features built in that make it compete with a Swiss Army knife, without any of the fumbling and changing of tools though.

On the back, there's a small file that you could use to do your nails, or smooth out anything that you're making. At the tip, there's a screwdriver head, which can also be used as a scoring point to cut into things. And on the inside edge, there's a bottle opener and a saw blade, which could be really useful when cutting rope, or, as pointed out by the makers - for taking tags of clothes easily.

The scoring point also looks super useful for breaking open the awful plastic clamshell packaging that all electronics come in - like a box cutter, only carrying one of these around is actually handy because you can use it for a whole range of functions.

This product doesn't really break new ground - you can even round up all the individual tools for a lot less, but if you want something that's handy and always at hand, then the Quickey does shine. Plus all the cutting edges are touch-safe, so you probably won't hurt yourself, while no one would recommend keeping a box cutter in your pocket. Check out the full video below:
