Want to know about the apps and gadgets that leaders from all walks of life love and swear by? Personally Tech is our weekly collection of the best tech setups of the people making our favourite products and services.
We've looked at the heads of most of India's biggest tech companies, and we've also learned about the gadgets that the heads of firms like Grohe, Anchor, and Sbarro use. We've talked to authors like Shweta Taneja and Amrita Chowdhury about their favourite apps and tools.
This week, we got to catch up with Manish Seth, Marketing Head and Sales Director, Bacardi India. The boss of Bacardi sounds like the title for a party animal, and this executive has a lot of enthusiasm for music, with his old Sony Walkman still being a beloved gadget.
Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
Manish Seth: Currently I use an iPhone 6 Plus and have just started using the new MacBook Air. Both these gadgets fulfil all my professional as well as personal requirements. The iPhone 6 Plus is sleek yet powerful and that's what I like about it. It has a great camera, so I personally don't feel the need to carry a huge DSLR while on my travel routines. I also have an iPad Air and a PlayStation 4 for my twelve-year-old son. Apart from that I still love my Sony Walkman; it has a certain charm to it.
What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Manish Seth: There are plenty of apps that I use, but three that I can't live without have to be Evernote, Hungama music, and LinkedIn.
I use Evernote to keep track of my ideas and things to monitor since can they can be saved and accessed no matter what device I'm on. Hungama has the music I love listening to, so that's an easy pick. And as for LinkedIn, there is a great joy for me in connecting professionally from people from various backgrounds. Their suggestions and proposals on LinkedIn help us do great stuff for our brands.
Which is the one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
Manish Seth: Bose Noise Cancellation headphones - a must have while travelling - makes concentrating and working on long haul flights much easier. I also thought of getting a Kindle, because I read more than 2-3 books at a time, and carry them with me. But I don't think any of the ebook devices can match the joy of reading a book - with the "book smell".
What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
Manish Seth: The challenge which technology has thrown is enormity of data available which needs to be analysed. I'm waiting with bated breath for more advances in converting this data in immediately usable information.
How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Manish Seth: Technology has made physical location almost redundant. It enables easy connectivity, and is a storehouse of everything that you have ever used, or want to save for future reference. It has made everything very efficient, and that translates to improved productivity and more room for passions. It also makes learning curve better as it provides lots of information on similar stuff which has happened which allows more accurate decision making.
