  • Good 'Mini' Selfie Phone, but a little expensive.
Mac (Aug 1, 2014) on Flipkart
Oppo N1 Mini(5inch),the smaller sibling to their popular N1 (5.9inch) borrows many of the features from its bigger bro, like the Rotating Camera,O-Click Accessory Support,Color OS etc. # Build Quality and Size We now live in a world were 5 inch phones are now called Mini. For me, it's still a big device and I'm sure for many of you too. Those who have never got hands on an Oppo N1 would definitely mistake this 'Mini' device for the original N1 as both look identical. You are getting a premium quality device, well designed and well built, and your friends WON'T ask "Which is this new cheap Chinese device you are holding?" # Display 720P screens have now become the norm in anything above 15K. Mini sports a 5inch IPS 720P (1280x720) display, with good viewing angles. The original N1 has a 1080P screen - more the pixels, higher the battery consumption is,so its a good thing OPPO decided to push this out with a 720P one so that the smaller 2140mAh battery it has, lasts longer. # Internal Specs This is one area where i think Oppo could have improved N1 Mini. This is powered by Snapdragon 400 MSM8928 Quad-core clocked at 1.6Ghz and Adreno 305 GPU. This combination is quite capable and you would hardly find the device lagging, even when playing graphics intense games. But since this is priced at 26990 (as of this writing) i would have loved this coming with the processor/gpu combination seen in Xiaomi Mi3/Nexus 5. It comes with 2GB ram, helping in good gaming and multitasking. # Software Oppo ships their devices with their customized Android OS named Color OS which has a lot of useful features, custom gestures and themes support. The current version on N1 Mini is based on Android 4.3 and 4.4 Kitkat based one is said to be in the works. I am not sure when this will get the update as there is not official word on it yet. The original N1 came with official CyanogenMod support which is missing in Mini version, even though you might find unofficial builds on xda if enough devs have got hold of this device.Check You-tube to know more about ColorOS features, gestures and themes. # Camera The most attractive feature on the N1 Mini is the rotating camera it has. If you are a selfie addict, this will serve you very well as you can rotate the main camera on to the front and take great selfies. Oppo is said to have tested this rotating thingy for thousands of rotations and guarantees it to last long. The camera sensor is made by Sony (1/3.2 size) with a f/2.0 aperture - smaller the aperture is ,greater the amount of light gets in. Oppo has included a Ultra HD mode with which you can take 24MP pictures which is made possible by some software magic. There is also a long exposure/slow shutter feature which you would find useful if into light painting and to do other creative photographic stuffs.Overall camera performance is Good, takes good pictures in well lighted conditions and gets a little noisy when the light drops. Check out Flickr or Google for some sample images. # O-Click Accessory Oppo's O-Click accessory is unique and communicates with the phone over bluetooth. You can use this to Find your misplaced device or can be used to trigger the camera shutter which is quite useful to get some blur free group selfies. It Costs Rs 1800. # Benchmarks Score - On Antutu it scores around 21000 which is good and on Nenamark GPU test, 58fps. # Storage - 16GB edition. There is no micro sdcard slot to add external storage, but OTG is supported. # Battery - N1 had a massive 3610 mAh battery and as you can expect on Mini, it is a comparatively small one - 2140mAh. Good enough to last you a day of modetate use. # Verdict N1 Mini, like the original N1 is a unique device. You are sure gonna find a lot better performing devices for a lesser/similar price shipping with Stock Android Kitkat, but in many you would miss the excellent built quality and the unique selfie friendly camera. The only other OEM that offers a rotating camera is Gionee. The other popular selfie centric camera in the market is Sony's newly launched Xperia C3 which has a front camera with flash. Also Lava is rumored to be launching a similar selfie phone soon. Like everyone who reviewed this device, i too agree that this should be priced lesser, maybe in 20k-22K range.

  • Product is good but flipcart's behavior was very rude

Hi. I have been buying from flipcart from a long time. Long story short.Ordered this phone after talking to cust care exe seeking clarity on returns in case there is any missing item or the phone manufacturing date was not recent. Strong promises & assurances were given to me but only to be broken. Got the phone, box was dirty, mfg date was Jan 2015 (already lost almost an year of battery shelf life) still opened it n saw that the query on the accessory i had specifically asked for missing. I switched ON the device n just tried installing watsapp via wifi to see if things worked fine or not, bingo, got an error of "insufficient memory" ! It was an out of box failure, immediately called n asked for replacement but what i experienced thereafter was pure harassment by arrogant customer resolution dept guys. They did everything possible to avoid accepting the issue and took the side of the vendor which was quite shocking to me. I was asked to take a brand new, unused phone to service center !!!! After about an hour of argument with 2 different guys, i was told a reverse pickup cannot be provided to my area. For clarity i stay in the most famous location of Bangalore, near ITPL !!! They asked me to ship back the phone to the vendor at my expense and that they would refund my money and reimburse the courier charges as wallet credit which i had to use to buy items ONLY from the same vendor again. What i wanted is a simple replacement of the product and that too the terms were within the policy of Flipcart !!!! This made me regret my decision to buy the phone via flipcart. Moreover if the phone got lost or stolen by the courier company i would have lost my entire money !! Strange part was 2 days later i took the phone to off (packed as received) thinking i will apply half a day leave and get it rectified. Shockingly the same day the eKart reverse pickup guy has come to my house asking for the phone !!! As a customer i felt really bad and dejected by this strange behavior from flipcart. First they reject my request > later asked me to take it to service center > they sent me an SMS asking me to ship it back > another SMS that my claim was rejected > they still sent the eKart logistics guys to pick the phone !!!! What should i think of all these ? I am an experienced Engineer and still have some ethics left in me as a human being and decided not to pursue any further discussions (I am not using the phone because of the bad exp i have had & its not a good feeling). I feel cheated by both the vendor and Flipcart. The overall experience was very disturbing and painful. All for a phone ? I have almost made up my mind not to buy an electronic product, specially a phone, from Flipcart ever again in my life.... Thanks for the wholesome experience Flipcart....I am also considering to dis-associate myself from Flipcart permanently. You guys started promisingly but have lost your way and your motto is only to make money and not customer satisfaction..such a shame. However, i am prepared to change my mind in case you guys really come forward, take the phone from me without asking questions and provide me with one i had asked for originally - good working phone with recent manufacturing date.
