The Nokia G20 has a subtle yet practical design, claims to offer a 3-day battery life, and runs on Android 11 software that's as close to stock as possible. On paper, it seems like a decent budget smartphone, with a focus on build quality and hassle-free everyday performance. However, after using it for a week, I discovered that it did not meet some of my expectations, making it quite hard to recommend.
The Nokia G20 runs near-stock Android with a guarantee of updates. This is a good-looking phone and it feels well built. There’s a 5,050mAh battery that easily lasts two days on a single charge, with casual use. However, beyond this, things start to fall apart. Despite going with a near-stock version of Android, software performance is sluggish, and most of the time the phone’s hardware appears to struggle to keep up with the software. Gaming performance is not great either, with most 3D games failing to run smoothly even at the lowest possible settings. The HD+ display falls quite short both in terms of quality and specifications. Charging the phone from a dead battery to 100 percent takes over three hours using the bundled charger. Despite having four cameras at the back, photo quality is quite underwhelming and the same can be said about this phone’s video capture capabilities.
