There are thin-and-light “gaming lifestyle” laptops that can actually be carried around every day, and then there are “musclebook” models that are designed solely for power with no priority whatsoever given to weight or bulk. MSI's latest flagship model, the GT76 DT-9SG Titan, falls squarely and unapologetically into that latter category. It weighs over 4kg (not counting the two enormous power bricks) and uses a desktop Intel Core i9 CPU plus an Nvidia GeForce RTX series GPU with all the cooling apparatus that you'd imagine these components would require. Laptops like this are meant to be used only when plugged in, but they don't take up as much room as a full-sized gaming desktop PC, and they can be carried around when necessary.
MSI's latest top-end gaming laptop is designed with no budget or size constraints in mind. For nearly the price of a small car, you get the latest and greatest gaming hardware including a desktop-grade Intel Core i9-9900K CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. This laptop is huge and weighs 4.5kg, which means it will spend most of its life on your desk, not in your backpack. It also requires two big 230W power bricks, making it even more unweildy.
You get plenty of flexibility with four SSD and hard drive bays in total, plus space for up to 128GB of RAM. There's loads of connectivity too, including Thunderbolt 3. The screen is a non-reflective 4K 60Hz panel, which is the only disappointment considering that a laptop this expensive should offer a variable or at least high refresh rate.
The keyboard is not mechanical but is comfortable for general usage. Once you start using this laptop you'll notice how much heat and noise it generates, and this can be off-putting. Gaming performance is generally excellent, though we struggled at 4K with all the settings pushed up, and had to tone dial them down a bit.
