ZTE, at a private event in the New York City on July 14, announced a new line of high-end smartphones dubbed 'Axon'. The company already has its 'Nubia' sub-brand that includes the company's high-end smartphones. The 'Axon' sub-brand for now is said to reach the US region first. While not all the specifications of the handset are known, ZTE has put up a teaser page of the smartphone revealing some details.
The Axon is teased sports 4GB of RAM, which makes it one of the select few handsets in the markets to bear such a large amount of memory. Flagship handsets such as the Galaxy S6, HTC One M9 and others feature 3GB RAM. Notably, the Asus ZenFone 2 comes with 4GB of RAM.
Like few HTC smartphones, the Axon will also house dual-lens camera solution along with dual-LED flash. The dual-lens camera is supposed to give users quick auto focus and recognise depth-of-field. The smartphone camera can also shoot 4K resolution videos. The front-facing camera can detect a user's smile to capture an image. Also mentioned is the Hi-Fi audio playback and recording via twin microphones using the "best in noise suppression technology".
The teaser page of the handsets adds the Axon to house "a large battery for all-around high performance under the hood." As for the interface, the smartphone sports a simplistic Android UI with 'full-bleed' images. A 'lightning-fast processor' has also been mentioned.
The smartphone upon its launch will be available in three colour variants - Phthalo Blue, Ion Gold, and Chromium Silver. The handset sports a metallic body and speaker grilles at the top and bottom of the display. While the confirmed price of the handset is not yet out, a contest page on the teaser website shows the approximate retail value of the Axon as $450 (Rs. 28,600) under its competition rules section.
