Mike Fasulo, President of Sony Electronics, while announcing new devices at the CES event confirmed that the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z range will begin next month. Soon, Sony's Mobile global PR team tweeted the same information.

The popular Sony Xperia Z lineup includes devices namely the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
Unfortunately, the Sony executive did not specify the exact release dates for the Sony Xperia devices. Some of the media reports however have claimed that the Sony Xperia Z3 series, the most-recent Xperia Z devices launched at IFA last year, will receive the update first starting February.
Last month, the company on Twitter announced that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update would reach the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 handsets at the beginning of 2015. The details came as a reply to user queries.
In November, Sony released the Android 5.0 Lollipop AOSP device configuration source, pre-built software binaries and build instructions binaries for its range of Xperia Z handsets including Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.
