Xiaomi has announced that it will host an event at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next year. The event will be held on January 5, and the company is expected to announce an 'innovative' product for the global market.
This will be Xiaomi's first appearance at CES since its inception, and it emphasises the company's expansion plans. While there is no clarity on what Xiaomi plans to launch, the event summary reads, "At its CES debut, leading technology company Xiaomi will be showcasing an exciting new product that illustrates how it is pushing the boundaries of innovation. Xiaomi was founded based on the vision 'innovation for everyone' - with the belief that high-quality products built with cutting-edge technology should be made widely accessible."
The brief hints that the product - whatever it may be - will be priced competitively. Xiaomi could finally push the impending launch of a smartphone in the US. The company's VP Hugo Barra has often cited logistical issues for customer care and the highly competitive market nature as big hurdles, however in light of recent events; Xiaomi may have had a change of heart. Many Chinese companies like LeEco, Huawei and even OnePlus have entered the US market in recent years. Alternatively, Xiaomi could just be launching a completely new product in the US market - like a wearable or a VR headset.
However, all of this is just speculation, and official details will only be out on January 5. CES will be held next year from January 5 to January 7. Apart from Xiaomi, LG, Qualcomm, Panasonic, ZTE, and Samsung are also expected to host events at the three-day conference.
