What appeared to be the successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 3 with 16GB of inbuilt storage and a fingerprint scanner at the back was listed on Tenaa certification website just a few days ago - with model number 2016030. Now, the authority lists three 32GB variants, indicating that there might be four variants of the Redmi 3 successor in the pipeline.
The three variants are the Xiaomi 2016036, 2016035, and 2016033, all of which feature 32GB storage of inbuilt storage, instead of the 16GB seen on the earlier listed variant. All the other specs remain the same, except for the full-HD display on the Xiaomi 2016035.
The two smartphones storage variants are touted to be called Redmi 3A and Redmi 3S. The smartphones feature a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) LCD display, and an octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz paired with 2GB of RAM, and Adreno 405GPU. The inbuilt storage on the two smartphones is said to be 16GB and 32GB, which can be further expanded via a microSD slot (up to 128GB).
It is expected to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. The Xiaomi Redmi 3A/ 3S are expected to run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and may pack 4000mAh battery. It is said to come with dimensions 139.3x69.6x8.5mm and weigh 143 grams. Connectivity options to include 4G LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi support.
Xiaomi will offer Grey, Silver, and Gold colour options with these variants, and are expected to be priced cheaper than the Redmi 3. Xiaomi announced the Redmi 3 in January, and priced it at CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 7,100) at launch.
Update: It appears the mention of the full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display in the Xiaomi 2016035 listing on Tenaa was a typographical error, with the certification authority correcting it shortly after this article was published.
