Xiaomi on Friday confirmed it will be launching the Mi Note 2 flagship smartphone at a Beijing event on Tuesday, kicking off at 11:30am IST. The long rumoured phone has been leaked several times in the past few weeks, and, the company has now confirmed one of the biggest expectations - it will sport a curved or dual edge display.
In a tweet on Friday, Xiaomi said the Mi Note has been "curved to impress". While this itself may leave some room for speculation, the company has very specifically added that the smartphone will feature "two-sided dual curves". This all but confirms a dual edge curved display like the ones Samsung employs on the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Mi Note 2 launch confirmation by Xiaomi follows a major leak from earlier this week that tipped pricing and specifications, all in the form of leaked presentation slides. The leak also tipped another much-rumoured feature - the presence of a dual rear camera setup similar to the one launched with the Mi 5s Plus last month. Also tipped is an iris scanner.
The leaked presentation slides reveal two models will be launched - 4GB of RAM/ 64GB of inbuilt storage at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs. 27,800), and 6GB of RAM/ 128GB of storage at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 29,800).
Other leaked specifications include a 5.7-inch Super Amoled (1440x2560 pixels) display with pressure sensitive technology - similar to the Xiaomi Mi 5s. It is said to be powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 821 SoC, while the dual rear camera sensor is said to bear a 23-megapixel Sony IMX318 sensor and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX378 sensor. On the front is said to be an 8-megapixel sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi Note is also tipped to sport a 4100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner embedded under glass, as well as 4G VoLTE , Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4/5 GHz) MU-MIMO, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C connectivity options. The smartphone is said to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8, and support dual-SIM slots (Nano + Nano).
