At Google I/O 2016, Gadgets 360 got a chance to speak with Xiaomi Global Vice President Hugo Barra, who was at the developer conference to launch the Mi Box Android TV set-top box.

Barra spoke about the company's current situation in the Indian market, saying Xiaomi's most recently launched smartphones - the Redmi Note 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 5 - were doing exceptionally well in the country. Both smartphones were launched in India in March.

The Xiaomi Global VP said demand for the two smartphones has been so high in India that even the open sales see the smartphones sellout as quickly as flash sales. Barra said the Redmi Note 3 at its price point and with its feature set is ideal for the Indian market, and its demand shows that. The company is going to increase production of the Redmi Note 3 so that supply can match the demand.

He also said that the Xiaomi Mi 5 has been selling exceptionally well in India for a device priced at Rs. 24,999, and the company was also looking at boosting production to make more units available to Indian consumers. Barra said the company was working to bring more SKUs of the Xiaomi Mi 5 in India, and has so far seen much demand for the Black colour variant of the smartphone in the country. He said Xiaomi is working on bring the Black colour variant of the Mi 5 to India soon, but did not have a release date to share.

Barra also showcased the Mi Box Android TV to Gadgets 360. The highlight feature of the Xiaomi Mi Box Android TV set-top box that was launched at Google I/O 2016 is its ability to stream 4K video at 60fps. It is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM, and comes with 8GB of storage built in. It ships with a Bluetooth remote control that supports voice search.

Xiaomi is set to launch a drone at an event in China next week, and has been teasing the launch on social media channels and the company forum.
