Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch next version of its MIUI ROM on May 10. The announcement by the company means that the May 10 event will see the launch of the Mi Max smartphone which will also be platform lead device of the new MIUI 8. In a forum post, the company also confirmed plans to launch the Mi Band 2 which has been making rounds on the rumour mills for weeks now.

"Evolving from the first version in 2010, MIUI has served as the operating system for over 150 million across the globe. I am sure all of your devices have updated to the latest version of MIUI 7, no matter you are using stable or developer ROMs. On May 10, we will introduce you MIUI 8, with the features you always wanted and new designs beyond your imagination. New design, with new experience," the Chinese company said.

Xiaomi also shared a demo video showing its upcoming MIUI 8 notification bar which has received cosmetic changes.

Ahead of the May 10 launch, Xiaomi's next Mi Band 2 was spotted in the wild. Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun was spotted wearing a smart band, believed to be the Mi Band 2. In the image, Jun was seen wearing a smart band featuring a display. An earlier report had claimed that the next-generation Mi Band would reduce wearable's dependence on the connected smartphone and would sport a small display. The report had stressed that the display on the new Mi Band would be a highlight feature and will be the biggest improvement over the older generation.

Xiaomi Mi Max, on the other hand, was teased recently by the company and was seen featuring a similar design language as the company's flagship, the Mi 5. Much like the flagship, the Mi Max was seen featuring a home button which was expected to integrate the fingerprint scanner. Apart from the front panel, the rear camera setup on the Mi Max phablet also looked identical to the Xiaomi Mi 5.

Based on preliminary leaks, Xiaomi's Mi Max is expected to feature a massive 6.4-inch full-HD display; run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow; powered by hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor; 2GB of RAM; 16GB of storage; 16-megapixel rear, and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
