Xiaomi has announced that it shipped 9.2 million smartphones, a record number of units, in India in Q3 2017. The announcement was made by Manu Kumar Jain, Vice President Xiaomi and Managing Director Xiaomi India in a tweet. Jain also shared a piece of trivia about Xiaomi smartphones shipments in the country.

"We started with a humble beginning of selling 100,000 per quarter in 2014, crossed the 1 million mark in Q3 2015, 3 million in Q3 2016 and now for the first time - 9 million in Q3 2017," he said in a tweet.

Jain also quotes Counterpoint Research to say the top three smartphones in India in Q3 2017 were the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4, and Redmi 4A. "Our motto has always been to deliver high quality innovative products at affordable price!" added Jain.

The Chinese company recently announced that it shipped 70 million units in 10 months of this year. Xiaomi had also claimed that it surpassed 10 million units, for the second month in a row, this year.

Chinese brand Xiaomi was also reported to be the fastest growing smartphone brand globally by Counterpoint Research's Market Monitor service. The research claimed that Xiaomi emerged as the fastest growing brand in terms on shipments year-on-year (over 81 percent) driven by strong sales in both China and India. Xiaomi was also the fastest growing brand in both China and India during the quarter, according to research.

Additionally, an IDC report recently claimed that Xiaomi despite being at the fifth place globally had the strongest gain, doubling its sales to 27.6 million units, driven mainly by success in India, according to the report.
