Microsoft has revealed that it has overtaken iPhone's market share in China. According to Microsoft's Greater China region COO, company's Windows Phone has already captured 7pc of the smartphone outdoing Apple iPhone's 6pc share.

It wasn't really a big number to achieve but considering that company has reached this milestone in just two months of the Windows Phone launch in the country, certainly shows that China will play vital role in moulding the fortunes of Windows Phone as well its premier partner Nokia in the year.

According to research firm IDC, China is set to become the biggest smartphone market in the world this year overtaking United States. With the market dynamics of an emerging market, Nokia will have a bigger role to play in the country. Nokia's traditional strength has always been emerging markets like China and India, where consumers want a varied range of smartphones in different price points, and Nokia can provide that with the help of Windows Phone.

Microsoft had remarked at the Windows Phone launch that it aims to drive the smartphone price down to 1000 yuan and expects its hardware partners to release smartphone at the price-point in the near future.
