Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact Design and Specs Tipped Ahead of Launch

Ahead of Sony's pre-IFA 2014 event on Wednesday, new leaks about two of its anticipated smartphones launches - the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact - have surfaced on the Internet. While the unannounced Xperia Z3 Compact was leaked in three images flaunting the phone's design and colours, the much-awaited Xperia Z3 flagship also surfaced in a leaked image alongside some purported specifications.

The leaked images of the anticipated Sony Xperia Z3 Compact show the handset to arrive in four different colour variants - White, Black, Red and Green.

As seen in the leaked images by Ausdroid, the handset from its back panel is virtually identical to the Xperia Z1 Compact. However, one of the differences spotted is the placement of the speaker on the front panel below the display, instead of hiding it on the bottom panel. A front-facing camera on top-right corner is also visible, while the right side panel features what appear to a circular power button, a volume rocker, and a dedicated camera button. The right panel visible in the images show two naked contacts, which may be to support an accessories such as the company's lens-style cameras.

Several purported specifications of the anticipated Xperia Z3 Compact have been doing the rounds of the Internet in the recent past, and include a 4.5-inch 720x1280 pixel display; a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC processor; an Adreno 330 GPU; 2GB of RAM; a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Ausdroid adds that a 2600mAh battery will back the handset.

Meanwhile, besides the leaked images of the unannounced Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, the much-awaited Xperia Z3 also emerged in a leaked image on Tuesday, along with some purported specifications, right on the eve of the company's IFA 2014 event.

The image, sourced by Xperiablog, shows the anticipated Xperia Z3's back panel with a sticker revealing the handsets' specifications. As per the image, the smartphone features a 5.2-inch full-HD IPS display with Triluminos technology; a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC chipset; 20-megapixel rear camera with a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor and ISO limit up to 12,800, as well as a 3100mAh battery. The body of the Xperia Z3 is said to be slimmer at 7.5mm than the previous generation Xperia Z2's 8.2mm. The handset might be available in Black, White and Copper colour variants.
