Sales of Sony Xperia Z, company's latest flagship device, have topped 4.6 million in just 40 days, a report indicates.
HK Silicon quotes analysts who revealed the impressive numbers. It is worth pointing out that these numbers are unofficial, with no word from Sony yet on how the Xperia Z (Review | Pictures) is doing in terms of sales. On its part, the company did reveal back in February, that Xperia Z was off to an encouraging start, but there has been no word since.
To give you an idea how good these numbers are, let's compare it with how some other successful phones fared last year. Samsung's last flagship, Galaxy S III, took two months to clock 10 million sales. While the Xperia Z numbers may not look that impressive when compared to the S III, it does fare better when compared with another popular Samsung product.
Samsung sold 3 million Galaxy Note II units in five weeks, with sales topping 5 million in two months. By that benchmark, the Xperia Z surely seems off to a stellar start.
Sony introduced the Xperia Z at CES back in January. It comes with a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920) display and is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor. Other highlights include a 13-megapixel rear camera, 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi, and the phone runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Xperia Z is IP55 and IP57 certified, which means it is dust and water resistant.
The Sony Xperia Z was launched in India in March carrying a price tag of Rs. 38,990.
