Sony Xperia Z gets software update, reportedly fixes sudden death issue

Sony Xperia Z has received its first software update. As per GSMArena, this update will help in resolving sudden death issues reported for Sony Xperia Z (Review | Pictures). The build number for this update is 10.1.A.1.434, while Android version stays 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and kernel is also the same at 3.4.0.

This update will be available both over-the-air (OTA) as well as via Sony's PC companion. So far there is no word on whether this update is being pushed out regionally or all across countries simultaneously. There is no word either on what functionality this update brings as there is no official change log available. GSMArena claims that the update fixes the sudden death issue. However, as per XDA forum, this update does not resolve the slow camera start-up time issue of Xperia Z.

Sony had showcased their Xperia Z smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013. It features a 5-inch full-HD display (1080x1920). The smartphone runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Internally, it packs in a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. For camera, there is a 13-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera.

The Xperia Z is IP55 and IP57 certified, making it water and dust resistant, features a full glass exterior, is 7.9mm thin weighing 149 grams and has a 2,330mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

This smartphone has recently been announced in India for Rs. 38,990. As per previous news reports, certain Xperia Z users across the world had complained that their smartphone is dying suddenly, after which the users are unable to switch on the phones.

Some fortunate customers were able to get their device alive again by hard resetting the Xperia Z. However, this method did not work for all users. Sony had acknowledged this problem and assured of an update in the near future and the Japanese maker seems to have kept its promise.
