In its announcement earlier, Sony had confirmed that the Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Premium]( , Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact will be receiving the Android 9 Pie update in early November. However, the company has reportedly already starting rolling out the update for Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact users. The Android Pie update is over 1GB in size, and we recommend that you install it over a strong Wi-Fi connection and while the phone is on charge. Alternatively, ensure that your battery is above 80 percent before you start the installation process.
Sony Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact users in Europe began reporting on a thread on Reddit of the availability of this Android Pie update, but now US users have also spotted the update arriving on their devices. If you live in one of these regions, and are not seeing an update notification, we recommend that you head to the Settings menu to manually check for the update. The version number associated with this Android Pie update is 52.0.A.3.27, and it moves up from the last build number 51.1.A.11.51. This update also brings along the October security patch. This Android Pie update to Sony Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact was first reported by Xperia Blog.
Sony fulfilling its promise ahead of time is commendable, and now that the two phones have started to receive Android 9 Pie, we assume that the rest of the compatible Sony phones will also get it soon. The company has earlier confirmed that the Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and Xperia XZ1 Compact will be getting the upgrade starting November this year. The Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus can expect to get the Android 9 Pie upgrade by early 2019.
It is still unclear if the update is rolling out for Sony Xperia XZ2 and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact users outside of Europe and US. Let us know if you've received the Android Pie update on your Sony Xperia XZ2 or a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact in the comments below.
