The Japanese electronics giant made the announcement via its blog, along with the complete changelog that the updates will include for the Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual, apart from the platform optimisations that Android 4.4 KiKat offers over Jelly Bean.

The changes in the Android 4.4 KitKat update for both the devices will include a tweaked Status Bar as well as Quick Settings, apart from a new PlayStation 4-inspired user interface with a sleeker launch animation and live wallpaper across the lock and home screens.
Just like the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra (Review | Pictures) and Sony Xperia E1 (Review | Pictures) smartphones, Sony has included the option to move apps from internal memory to SD card.
The upgrade will also enable compatibility of Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual with fitness tracker SmartBand SWR10 (Review | Pictures) and health app Lifelog. It also upgrades the native app portfolio (including Messaging, Smart Connect, TrackID, Sony Select, Battery Stamina Mode, Walkman, and more) to their latest versions. Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Dual users will also get access to Xperia Themes and downloadable UI packs from Sony Select.
Unlike previous updates, Sony this time around didn't mention any devices that were next-in-line for an Android 4.4 KitKat update.
Notably, the Sony Xperia M2 is a single SIM supporting device, while the Xperia M2 Dual is the dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) variant, but both models otherwise come with identical specifications. The Sony Xperia M2 (and Xperia M2 Dual) features a 4.8-inch qHD display with a resolution of 540x960 pixels; a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor; 1GB of RAM; 8GB of inbuilt storage with expandable storage support up to 32GB; an 8-megapixel rear camera; 0.3-megapixel front facing camera and a 2300mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia M2 Dual was launched in India in April, priced at Rs. 21,990.For the latest tech news and reviews, follow Gadgets 360 on X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Google News.
