In a bid to keep the level of interest in its much talked about device up before its rumoured IFA launch, Sony has started teasing its upcoming flagship smartphone on Twitter.

Although early leaks suggested that the long rumoured Sony Xperia Honami aka i1 will pack a 20-megapixel rear camera, the company's teaser image features the power button of the device instead.

The tweet posted by Sony says, "It's the smartphone everyone's been talking about... not long now." The tweet is accompanied by the #bestofsony hashtag that suggests that Sony wants more people to talk about its upcoming smartphone.

The power button of the device is reminiscent of the one present in Sony's flagship smartphones, Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra. Aside from the teaser, Sony has not provided any new information related to the upcoming smartphone.

Sony has long been rumoured to be working on a flagship smartphone featuring a device with a 20-megapixel Exmor RS rear camera that is also expected to sport a Sony G-lens and BIONZ image processor, which is reportedly the highlight of the smartphone. Recently, a rumour claimed that the Xperia Honami might release as the Sony Xperia Z1.

Additionally, a few press render images of the device were leaked by ePrice. However, the images leaked were of low-resolution and did not reveal many details about the upcoming handset. The images did reveal that the upcoming handset from Sony will come in three colour variants, Black, Purple and White. The images also revealed that the device may feature a glass back panel.

Rumoured specifications of the Xperia Honami or Z1 include a 5.0-inch full-HD display. It's likely to be powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. It may include 16GB internal storage and a 3000mAh battery. The device is said to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It is also being rumoured that the device would be dust and water resistant.

It is worth pointing out that Samsung may steal the show from Sony as the company is also expected to launch the Galaxy Note III phablet and the Galaxy Gear smart watch during the same time.
