Scentee, developed by a Japanese company with the same name, plugs into your phone and releases a chosen scent when you get a notification.
So every time someone comments on your Facebook post or sends you an email, you could get a whiff of lavender or coconut or coffee.
The round, white gadget plugs into the headphone socket.
Users can also schedule the scent emission to match their alarm clock for a fragrant wakeup call, 'New York Daily News' reported.
The scent cartridges come in traditional fragrances like rose, jasmine and apple, as well as more unusual smells like curry and corn soup.
According to Scentee's website, each cartridge lasts for about 100 puffs.
The smells of short ribs, sizzling beef tongue and buttered potatoes will also be added to the gadget.
The device costs about USD 35 and each cartridge is priced at USD 5.
