Samsung is likely to unveil its next Galaxy Note phablet in the coming months. As with earlier models, the Galaxy Note 6 has started making rounds on the rumour mill. One of the biggest changes Samsung is expected to bring with its new Note phablet is launch it as the Galaxy Note 7, skipping the Note 6 naming in an attempt to match the Note series naming with the Galaxy S series - Galaxy S7.
The latest leak around the new Note phablet says that the smartphone will sport an iris scanner, which if true will make it the first smartphone with the feature in Samsung's lineup. To recall, the South Korean company had recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris in India featuring an iris scanner for biometric authentication.
Price Raja reports that Samsung recently unveiled a Galaxy Beta Program which has an iris scanner feature listed in the settings. The presence of iris scanner on the Galaxy Note 7 (or Note 6) is further corroborated by a Zauba import/ export listing that shows Samsung shipped 200 units of iris scanners to India recently. It claims that Samsung may be already testing the feature internally ahead of the official launch.
Considering Samsung has not confirmed any details about the upcoming Note phablet, all these leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt as their legitimacy remains questionable.
A separate report claims that Samsung's next flagship smartphone, believed to launch as the Galaxy S8, may sport a 4K UHD display. Korea Herald reports that Samsung may ship the alleged Galaxy S8 with a 5.5-inch display featuring an impressive 4K UHD resolution.
The report cites an official from UBI Research who said, "Samsung Display showcased a 5.5 ultra-high definition 4K display with a pixel density of 806 ppi for virtual reality devices at the Society for Information Display, a display trade show, in California in March. Considering various factors including the production yield rate for the next-generation display expected to improve in the coming months, the 5.5-inch AMOLED will be deployed in the next Galaxy smartphone, presumably, named the S8.
Another Zauba listing tips that Samsung might launch the successor to the Galaxy Folder flip smartphone soon. GSM Dome first reported that the handset codenamed SM-G1600 has appeared on the Zauba listing. No other details about the alleged Galaxy Folder 2 could be deciphered from the import/ export listing of Zauba.
