Samsung to fix Galaxy Note 3 third-party accessory issue via software update

Samsung has yet again addressed its users regarding the compatibility woes of third-party accessories with the Galaxy Note 3 phablet device post the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

The Korean smartphone maker has this time stated that there is indeed a third-party accessory compatibility issue related to the recent Galaxy Note 3 update to Android 4.4 KitKat. The firm further mentions that a software update is on its way that will enable the support for those accessories.

"We have currently identified a software compatibility issue with the Galaxy Note 3 update to Android 4.4 (KitKat) and select 3rd party accessories. A software update will be available shortly. We are committed to offering a diverse and reliable mobile experience for all customers, providing continued support and solutions for any issues that arise with product updates for both Samsung manufactured and third-party accessories," Samsung said in a statement to Ars technica.

According to the initial reports, it was said that some of third-party accessories for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 device, including the Samsung S-View case, had become incompatible due to the Android 4.4 KitKat update, which started rolling out in mid-January. This glitch was said to occur because the update ensured only those accessories which included Samsung's own ID chip via certification would be able to pair with the device.

Samsung had responded to initial reports by denying any link between the Android 4.4 KitKat update and for the Galaxy Note 3's ensuing accessory compatibility. It had said: "To ensure a pleasant and smooth user experience with Samsung products for our customers, we recommend that only original accessories from Samsung are to be used. Of course, customers can continue to rely on third-party accessories. The full functionality of our devices and accessories, however, can only be ensured with genuine Samsung components, since only in this way it is certain that the equipment and accessories are perfectly matched. A correlation between the Android version 4.4 and the supposed incompatibility of third-party accessories does not exist."
