Samsung India has confirmed that it will refund consumers who bought the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones outside the country. However, they will need to initiate the refund process before November 1.

"Consumers who have purchased Galaxy Note 7 from overseas are eligible for refund. They need to bring the invoice to the nearest service centre and get a refund basis the invoice value. The validity of the same is November 1 2016," said a Samsung India spokesperson in an emailed statement to Gadgets 360.

To recall, Samsung India announced the Galaxy Note 7 priced at Rs. 59,900 in August though the handset never went on sale in the country after reports of fire emerged in other countries. Customers who had pre-booked the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 were later offered a full refund and a chance to buy a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, along with a bunch of freebies.

Samsung last week announced that it was suspending all production of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone as the company was unable to fix the issue that was causing fires. The company has advised all Galaxy Note 7 users with either an original or replacement unit to power down and stop using the device immediately.

Samsung across various markets is allowing Galaxy Note 7 customers to apply for a full refund or to switch their units for other Samsung handsets.

Samsung is also helping Galaxy Note 7 customers get a refund or switch their phones at select airports after the handset was completely banned on flights by various airlines and aviation regulators including in India and the US.
