While the world is anticipating the availability of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Samsung is now in the headlines for a preferring a fresh name for the next flagship model instead of opting the Galaxy S10. The South Korean company isn't set for a different name altogether, albeit it is reportedly in plans to scrap the numeric naming scheme that has been adopted since the launch of the Galaxy S2 back in May 2011. Some initial reports already claimed that the next flagship by the Android leader will debut as the Galaxy X, the name identical to the iPhone X.

Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh, while speaking to reporters at a press conference at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona, suggested that the existing naming scheme might be upgraded for the next Galaxy series flagship. Koh, as reported by South Korean publication The Investor, stated that Samsung will continue to use the Galaxy brand, though it is exploring whether it should adhere to the S moniker or the numbering system.

If we look at some ongoing rumours, Samsung is preparing a new smartphone with a foldable display that will debut as the Galaxy X. This might be the next Galaxy S handset by the Korean giant. Moreover, the company could also pick a separate name for its new flagship and launch the Galaxy X as a fresh model - something similar to what Apple adopted at the time of launching the iPhone X.

On the sidelines of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ launch before the start of MWC, Koh mentioned in a media interview that the foldable smartphone isn't just a gimmick. The company is reported to have privately showcased a prototype of its first foldable device at CES 2018 last month, said to sport a 7.3-inch display panel. The innovative piece of hardware is expected to sport a flexible OLED panel.
