Samsung on Thursday announced that the latest Galaxy S9's Infinity Display has been awarded the "Excellent A+" grade by the display evaluation experts over at DisplayMate Technologies. One of the most trusted names in analysing device screen quality, DisplayMate has also stated the Galaxy S9 has the "the best performing smartphone display that we have ever tested." The Galaxy S9 features a 3K QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) OLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

DisplayMate's latest reports have revealed that Samsung's latest Galaxy S9 flagship phones offer the best average of factors that are used to ascertain display quality. These include colour accuracy, brightness, outdoor visibility, and reflectivity. While screen hardware has been borrowed from the previous-gen Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, DisplayMate notes that colour accuracy and picture quality have improved overall with the latest generation.

In Cinema Mode, Galaxy S9 has received a rating of 0.7 JNCD (Just Noticeable Colour Difference), which is said to be the bare minimum difference that a human eye can see. Apart from that, the smartphone also scored high on reflectance score that is useful for measuring screen readability, picture quality, and colour accuracy in strong light situations. The Galaxy S9's display has a peak brightness of 1,130 nits that is claimed to be more than 10 percent brighter than the one on the Galaxy S8.

To recap, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be launched in India at an event on March 6. The Galaxy S9 will sport a starting price tag of Rs. 57,900, while the Galaxy S9+ will start at Rs. 64,900 in the Indian market. We can expect the phone to be made available from March 16, in line with global availability.

DisplayMate awards are not undiscovered territory for Samsung that is acclaimed across the industry for making stellar OLED displays (even the iPhone X sports them). In the past, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note7, Galaxy S8, and recently the Galaxy Note 8 have received the "best smartphone display" title. However, the Apple iPhone X took the top spot for colour accuracy in the DisplayMate ranking in November last year.
