If anyone thought that Galaxy Note 7 debacle could bring Samsung down, they surely have been proved wrong by the company's latest flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. While we earlier reported that the company managed to sell 5 million units of the smartphones in less than one month after launch, the South Korean company has now reportedly said that these phones are selling "almost two times faster" than its predecessor Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones.
On Sunday, Samsung announced that it has sold more than 1 million units of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ since the smartphones' official launch on April 21, as per a news report by The Investor. "The phone's predecessors S6 and S7 hit the 100 million mark in 75 and 74 days since their launch, respectively. The S8 is selling almost two times faster than that," a Samsung official was quoted as saying in the report.
Samsung earlier announced on April 9, within two days of the smartphones' launch, that the pre-orders exceeded 550,000 units. Later, on April 18, the South Korean company said that pre-orders exceeded the 1 million mark, as pointed out in the report.
The latest smartphones from Samsung were released in India earlier this month on May 5. The India variants of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ feature dual-SIM functionality. The price in India of Galaxy S8 is Rs. 57,900 (MOP), while the Samsung Galaxy S8+ price in India is Rs. 64,900 (MOP). The latter is available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Maple Gold colour variants, while the former is available in Midnight Black and Maple Gold colour options.
Last month, Samsung said that the US pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 have been the 'best ever' and that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ attracted 30 percent more pre-orders than last year's Galaxy S7.
