You may opt to buy any smartphone or a regular phone but one of the most basic functionalities is to make calls without an issue. Recently, reports claimed that some Pixel 2 users were facing issue with their microphone, and the issue seems to be affecting more devices. Now, some Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 users are reporting similar issues with their units.
Surprisingly, the microphone issue seems widespread as Samsung users reported the mic problem months back though there has been no official fix or acknowledgement from the company.
Funnily, the microphone issue seems to get fixed by the same old school workaround Google Pixel 2 users reported, by blowing air into the bottom speaker. As we mentioned, a similar temporary fix was being tried by Pixel 2 users who were affected by the microphone issue. Several Samsung users vented their frustration on the company's official forums for the respective devices. The Reddit user who reported microphone issue on his Pixel spotted similar issues on Samsung forums. Some users claim that switching to speaker phone on call also fixes the issue.
The microphone issue seems to be more or less similar for most Pixel 2, Galaxy S8, and Galaxy Note 8 users. The microphone essentially malfunctions on calls - when making calls, the mic doesn't pick anything up. This has also been reported when giving voice commands on the affected devices. With the companies not acknowledging the issue, several users are speculating that the issue on some Pixel 2 (and Pixel 2 XL), Galaxy S8, and Galaxy Note 8 units are hardware related.
Some users, however, have claimed that the microphone issue was fixed by downgrading the software version or disabling a particular app. We will have to, however, wait for either Google or Samsung to come out officially and acknowledge the issues.
