Samsung has released the Developer Edition of its latest flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone in the US via wireless carrier Verizon, at $599 (approximately Rs. 36,000).

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Developer Edition sold through Samsung's official website is not under any contract, but is carrier-locked to Verizon. The 16GB variant available on the website comes in Charcoal Black colour with Verizon 4G LTE branding on its back panel.

Other specifications of the device remain the same as the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Pictures | Review) in India, except that it comes with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 4G LTE connectivity featured in the international variant.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box. It flaunts a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080x1920 pixel full-HD resolution. It is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor (1.9GHz Exynos Octa processor in India) coupled with 2GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage on the smartphone can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 16-megapixel rear camera with HDR (for video as well), and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera can record UHD video @30 fps along with HDR and video stabilisation functionality. It packs a 2800mAh battery and includes a heart-rate sensor and a fingerprint sensor.

Last week, Google had briefly teased the Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play edition in a listing on Google Play in US, which was later removed.

Samsung is also expected to launch a premium variant, a mini-variant, and a lite-variant of the Galaxy S5 soon. The company has already announced the Galaxy S5 Crystal Edition without pricing and availability, and on Monday announced a mid-May release for the Galaxy K zoom in Germany, with a EUR 519 price tag.
