The much-anticipated rugged version of the Galaxy S5, the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, has again made an appearance in a couple of videos showcasing a new app dubbed as Active Zone and better Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) as compared to Galaxy S5.
The first alleged Galaxy S5 Active video uploaded by TK Tech News (the same site that published the two alleged Galaxy S5 Active videos on Wednesday) focuses on the Active Zone application, which is supposedly exclusive to the smartphone. This app is said to be the improved version of the S Health app available on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Review | Pictures) handset.
The Active Zone app, as demonstrated in the alleged Galaxy S5 Active video, includes a barometer, compass, and shortcut keys to flash light, stopwatch and S Health. The video demonstrates these applications and shows how users can change the functions of the hardware keys from the Active Zone app. For instance, long pressing the dedicated camera key would launch the camera while a short-duration press can open the Activity Zone app.
It has been also been claimed in the video that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is much quicker in response than the Galaxy S5 and has a sturdier build that is similar to what we have seen in Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The smartphone also lacks the Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint sensor.
The second alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 Active video showcases the smartphone's video recording quality from the rear camera and has compared it to Samsung Galaxy S5's rear-camera video recording. From the video one can make out the difference as the Galaxy S5 Active's stabilisation in recording videos is seen to be better than Galaxy S5.
On Wednesday, the same Samsung Galaxy S5 Active smartphone was spotted in a couple of videos posted by the same publisher. The YouTube video purportedly showed the device's overall design, which looks reminiscent of the Galaxy S4 Active launched last year. The YouTuber showed that the Galaxy S5 Active packs an AT&T Micro-SIM card. However, as of now there is no official word on the release of the Galaxy S5 Active by either Samsung or AT&T.
Some of the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 Active specifications include a Snapdragon 801 processor; full-HD display; 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The Galaxy S5 Active is also likely to come with a water-resistant earphone jack, so one can use earphones even during wet conditions. Similar to the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S5 Active is also expected to take pictures underwater and feature an 'Aqua Mode' for the same.
