Samsung is expected to unveil its upcoming Galaxy Note 7 at an Unpacked event on August 2. Running up to the launch, a lot of leaks have started to trickle through and the latest one presents itself in the form of an alleged front panel image of the phablet.

The display panel has been leaked by Android Authority, and it shows the home button cut out at the bottom where the fingerprint sensor is also expected to be embedded. The unusually increased number of holes on top of the display panel, also reiterate the widespread rumours regarding presence of an iris scanner.

If this comes out to be true, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will become the first smartphone with the iris scanner feature in Samsung's lineup. To recall, the South Korean company had recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris in India featuring an iris scanner for biometric authentication. The iris scanner on the Galaxy Note 7 will essentially enable users to unlock their smartphones just by looking at it.

The report touts the display size to be at 5.8-inch. Apart from this, the image also reiterates the dual-edged display expected on this year's Note offering. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 7 exclusively with a dual-edged display, and ditch the flat screen variant completely.

For all those uninitiated, Samsung is pegged to skip a numeral this year and call the Galaxy Note 5's successor - the Galaxy Note 7. It intends to match its numbering for the Note series with its flagship Galaxy S series - Galaxy S7. It believes that if it sticks to the traditional order, the consumers will get confused and consider the new Note series to be of last year.

According to earlier rumours, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch QHD Super Amoled display. It may be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 or Exynos 8893 SoC, paired with 6GB of RAM. Storage options will be at 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB (with option to expand as well). Additionally, there is expected to be a 12-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, 3600mAh battery, and a new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based TouchWiz 'Grace' UX. The Galaxy Note 7 is expected to optimise its hardware in a battery-efficient manner, so much so that the phablet is expected to last for up to 20 hours of video playback with the brightness levels at maximum.
