Gaming company Razer entered the competitive smartphone segment last year, with the launch of the Razer Phone. The gaming-focused smartphone sports refresh rates of up to 120Hz, stereo front-facing speakers, a Snapdragon 835 SoC, and a 4,000mAh battery - a good package for intense gaming sessions. Now, the company has confirmed that the successor to the Razer Phone is in the works, and that it is "now focusing its resources into the development" of the new device. Unfortunately, launch details or any other information about the successor remain unknown.
In its earnings call, reported by WCCFtech, Razer confirmed that the successor is on the way. "Razer is now focusing its resources into the development of the second-generation Razer Phone and accompanying software releases which will extend its software and services from PC into the mobile market," one of the excerpts in the report read.
What's interesting is that the company is looking to extend its PC services to mobile, hinting at many new gaming-related features coming to the next-gen Razer Phone. To recall, Razer has a few nifty PC services like the Razer Game Store, and its zGold wallet and rewards platform, and both of these services (and more) could make their way to the mobile device when it launches.
Apart from the fact that the Razer Phone successor is on the way, the company hasn't revealed anything else about the smartphone. If we were to speculate, the new phone should be powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor, and sport the same 120Hz display, if not more. The Razer Phone was launched in November last year, and if Razer loves tradition, then the successor may be launched around the same month this year as well.
In its earnings call report for the first half of 2018, Razer reported that revenues grew 38.5 percent year on year to $274.2 million, gross profit grew 45.9 percent year on year to $79.5 million, and gross margin grew by 150 (1.5 percent) basis points year on year to 29 percent. A new Blade laptop is also expected to be launched this year.
