Chipmaker Qualcomm has announced two new processors, Snapdragon 400 and 200, to target the mid-tier and entry-level smartphone segments. The company had earlier announced the Snapdragon 800 and 600 processors targeted at premier and high end smartphones, tablets and mobile devices.

The Snapdragon 400 processors will include CPU options of Dual Krait CPUs running at up to 1.7GHz per core featuring Asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing (aSMP) and Quad ARM Cortex-A7 CPUs running at up to 1.4GHz per core for entry level devices. It will also feature the Adreno  305 GPU, for 3D gaming, responsive user interfaces and faster web browsing. They will support key modem technologies, including TDSCDMA, DC-HSPA+ (42Mbps), 1x Advanced, W+G CDMA, and multi-SIM capabilities of Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS) and Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA).

In addition to this, Snapdragon 400 will also feature LPDDR2 or LPDDR3 RAM (Low Power Double Data Rate) Fast RAM, which as per Qualcomm, would give a speed boost to memory operations, increasing the speed at which data flows to each component and boosting performance throughout the entire processor. Rich multimedia capabilities like advanced camera features (up to 13.5-megapixel), premium audio, and 1080p video capture and playback would also be supported. They will also support Miracast, a wireless display technology that streams content from mobile devices to an HDTV.

The Snapdragon 200 processors are essentially for entry-level smartphones, and feature Quad ARM Cortex-A5 CPUs with up to 1.4GHz per core. They will also offer Hexagon QDSP5 architecture, Adreno 203 GPU, LPDDR 2 RAM, and support HD video playback, CDMA multimode/UMTS modem options, High-accuracy GPS, Multi-SIM capabilities of Dual Sim Dual Standby, and up to 8-megapixel camera modules.

In January, Qualcomm had unveiled the Snapdragon 800, which, according to the company had 75 percent more horsepower than Qualcomm's old fastest model.

Qualcomm's competitor, NVIDIA, had recently announced the Tegra 4i, the company's first fully integrated 4G LTE mobile processor .
