This year
multiple manufacturers are pitching in to come up with the next Nexus smartphone, which according to a
report is supposed to launch by the end of October.
Until now LG was seen as the prime manufacturer with reports of the
LG Nexus 4 recently spotted online. But new images on
Picasa suggest another Nexus manufacturer in the rising and this time round it's Sony.
Dubbed as the 'Sony Nexus X', the pictures reveal the Sony branding at the bottom on the back panel of the device and the Google logo towards the top, just below the camera.
The front of the device features no branding or marking whatsoever. The authenticity of the images, posted by Picasa user Mutul Yeter, remains highly questionable.
Sony is just one of the many manufacturers to come up with a Nexus device. In the past months, we've heard rumours of Google choosing HTC to build the next
Nexus 5 smartphone.
In August, a leaked
DoCoMo document confirmed that LG, Sony and Samsung will be launching Nexus smartphones this year.
Though the Samsung Galaxy Nexus II rumours fizzled out pretty quickly, LG seems to be the most promising till now with more speculative images of the
LG-built Nexus smartphone seen online earlier this month. A
French newspaper also claims the phone will be dubbed as Nexus 4 and it will be announced on October 29. There are other reports hinting that the smartphone might be unveiled at All Things D's Dive into Mobile conference, which is scheduled for the same day.
